After it was down in 2019, Widener's average fastball velocity bounced back and was up two and a half ticks versus his 2019 mark. He also seemed to get some of the cut out of his fastball early during the 2020 season but it crept back into his fastball's movement later in the year. The velo bounce back and Widener's feel for locating his secondary stuff so consistently (his changeup is his best pitch) makes him a low-variance fifth starter even though I'm scared of his fastball's movement profile.
